My STI journey started last June 13, 2008. I transferred from New Era University with the course of BS in Secondary Education Major in Technology and Livelihood Eduaction (BSE-TLE). It was in my high school days when I started dreaming to work someday in Prestigious Hotels and Restaurants here and abroad. I always wanted to become a Room Attendant, Valet Parker, Waiter, Bell man and a Chef. They were all my dream job. That time, Nursing Schools and Nursing Training Centers are were starting to be in-demand, but they say next to it is the Hospitality and Hotel Industry Ever since, I got the idea that this industry will help a lot in the near future and make my parents proud someday. In my last few days in Highschool I started looking for schools that offers Hotel and Restaurant Management course but my parents didn’t know about this. I looked in the Top Universities and Colleges in the Metro and compared all tuition fees and finally I found a School that offers a Ladderized-program in Hospitality and Management. This is STI College. I am amazed with this school because they offer good education, well-air-conditioned rooms, newly built Kitchen and Hotel Rooms and lastly the E2E system which really excites me to study harder and aim more.

While studying, Last 2008 I tried working in one of the stores of Jollibee Foods Corporation, a leading fast food chain in the country. Sadly, I was only with the company in just 3 months. Studying in the morning and working at night was really tiring which became one of the most stressful days in my life. In my experience, the worst part of being a working student was when duty time coincides with major exams. One of my instructors wouldn’t let us take special or practical exams if we missed one midterm exam. Confused, I didn’t know what to do that time and I even sacrificed my break-time from work and run to school to take my exam and right-after, I would go back with empty stomach. After that day I started thinking to resign from my job. I realized that there are things that needed higher priority especially education. February 2009 cam and I decided to just stop working and focus on studying and I got my name maintained in the Dean’s List.

May 2010, I graduated a 2-year course in Hospitality and Restaurant Services at STI College-Munoz EDSA. I am very happy because I made my parents proud of me by surprising them on the Graduation day that their son was given the “Best Practicum Award” among the HRS students. Defintely one of the most unforgettable day in my life.

Since I am enrolled in a Ladderized Program in STI and with the influence of my parents I decided to pursue my Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management at STI College-Caloocan after graduating. Maintained my grades and maintained my name in the lists of the Dean’s list was still my priority. As a transferee and an Irregular student I was already done with advanced subjects in my 3rd-year College which triggered me again to apply a part-time job the next year. Starbucks Coffee (Rustan Coffee Corporation) was my recent employer, a world-class Coffee Shop with the World’s Best Coffee. I grabbed the opportunity to become a Barista because it was just a less tiring job and also to be a part of the World’s Best Coffee Brewer. I’ve been there for 7 months with a great working environment, with good co-workers, a good competitive rate and been regularized last February.

When I was in College I joined different kinds of extra-curricular activities in STI and I even joined competitions from local to Regional especially Cooking Competitions. I represented STI College-Munoz EDSA last 2009 in the Chef Xpress Competition and competed with different branches in of STI in Metro Manila. When I transferred in STI College-Caloocan luckily I won the Local Chef Xpress Competition and very happy to represent again my branch last 2011. This time I represented STI College-Caloocan and competed with other branches.I am always eager to join a competitions not just because of the certificates or awards but because I know it to myself that I am going to be using this someday in my chosen profession. All these things helped me a lot to become more confident and competitive.

As a college student We are also required to have our On-The-Job training specifically in Hotels and Restaurants. I had my first training last April 2008 at The Garden Plaza Hotel and Suites, a 3-star Hotel located in U.N. ave. Manila. The second one was in Manila Pavilion Hotel, a 4-star Hotel located also in U.N. ave. Manila. And lastly I had my best On-The-Job Training at Makati Shangri-la Hotel, a prestigious  5-star Hotel in Ayala ave. Makati, Manila. We are only required to have a 400-hour of training for the BSHRM but I had 720 hours. 200 in for the Garden Plaza, 200 for Manila Pavilion and 320 for Makati Shangri-la. I took all these training without pay and with just full of sacrifice and motivation. All These training will help a lot to improve me as a person and more competitive.

One day, I just realized that being a Barista is not really my Forte. I left Starbucks Last March because I think I want a change and want a job that will really suit my educational background which really deals in Management specifically in Hotel and Restaurant Management and at the same time prepare myself in looking a better job.

Last May 17, 2012, I went in the Mass Hiring of Mcdonald’s (Golden Arches Development Corporation). Luckily I passed the Initial interview and prepared me to a 2-day On-The-Job Evaluation, a hands-on training for a Management Trainee Position. After a month and after I passed 4 interviews I am now officially hired as a Manager in Mcdonald’s and will start on 16th of July 2012. I will be a part of the opening of the New Store of Mcdonald’s in Tandang Sora quezon City. It was the best graduation gift for me. I am so blessed that I don’t have to wait for a long time to get a job

And now the day has come. May 29, 2012 was the Big Day of my life, It’s my Graduation Day. I am very happy that finally i reached that important day of my life. Truly a blessing for me.No matter how different our life paths will be, we are all the students of STI, and we share the common concepts and values of our school - knowledge, spirituality and freedom. STI gave us an opportunity to get good academic training, balance our personal priorities and feel free to choose whatever path we like. So let me wish you luck and perseverance. I wish you all successes on your life path. All hardworks and pains are all worth it! It will be the start of a New Beginning in my Life!!!

It is a thousand times better to have common sense without education than to have education without common sense. “”“”……………………….
